Masterclass How AI and Machine Learning are Changing Business Forecasting

Program “How AI and Machine Learning are Changing Business Forecasting”

What Will You Learn?

  1. The importance of input data: The adage, “Garbage in, Garbage out” is particularly true when it comes to business forecasting. In this section we will examine how the quality and quantity of the available data impacts the accuracy of your forecasts. We will also discuss the differences between forecasts created using only the demand history (univariate forecasting, also known as extrapolation) and forecasts created using multiple inputs (multivariate forecasting).
  2. The role of judgement and domain knowledge: At times, your knowledge about your business and future events (domain knowledge) can be used to improve forecast accuracy. At other times, adding judgement to a statistically-generated forecast can decrease forecast accuracy. In this section we will survey the available research on the role of judgement and stress best practices for incorporating domain knowledge into your forecasting process.
  3. AI-driven forecasting: In this section we will survey the current state of the art of AI-driven forecasting. We’ll explain the differences between “stream-of-numbers” approaches, systems that incorporate domain knowledge and systems that generate forecasts automatically but also flag items that may need further human attention.
  4. The pros and cons of machine learning: The accuracy of machine learning forecasts has improved dramatically in the last five years. Many researchers see this trend continuing and eventually becoming how all automatic forecasts are generated. In this section we will discuss the pros and cons of machine learning forecasting and contrast this new approach with more traditional statistical models.
